Swapping out drivers door on 71 F100

Post by Corkwheats »

Hey Guys,
How difficult is it to swap out a door?
I wanna take the interior trim, etc. off my old one, and put on the new one, and can probably figure that out. But, where the door mounts, and lining it up correctly, I dunno where to start.
Any tips (pictures) would be appreciated.

Bob.

Aligning these doors is a real bear as you do not have much room for adjustment before the metal bits start taking paint off one another. I will suggest doing the alignment with the fenders off as there is less metal to remove paint from. The classic trucks link is pretty good. On mine on the door side I took out 2 of the bolts so I could use the bolt holes to see how the hinge was sitting inside the door. Then I'd use a pry bar to tweak the hinge so it sat level (to avoid binding at the pivot point) and also to preload the hinge so the door would not sag lower and lower every time I loosened the last bolt.
