My predicament, need advice.
Appoligies in advance for my rambling:
Okay so I need some advice. When all said and done i will be sandings, priming and painting my front clip of my truck. So 2 fenders a hood a grille and possibly a bumper, not to mention the valances. And they will be painting black. Like my truck is right now (I might change my mind of the grilles color).
My predicament is that, later on I will be doing all of the Above to the doors and bed. But not for sometime, as this is a budget build (Some minor rust issues).
So with the Front clip, part of me wants to sand prime and then stop until I can paint the whole truck. Then a part of me wants to try and paint the front clip black, color sand then buff. But If the 2 blacks don't match it will bug me. Since I don't know what type of black paint is on it now. And down the road I will be doing the same to the rest if the truck. One section at a time.
So to me logic dictates I leave it un painted.
If you all agree, then what can I spay over the primer to seal it till later? (As I will be driving it quite a bit) That would be easily sand-able for when I finaly get to paint the whole truck?

Black is always the same unless there has been fading. The level of gloss will most likely be the most noticeable. But...it won't be any worse than the mismatch between primer and paint. Just my 2 cents.

Well i found this primer clear coat I found at autozone. Dupli color makes it. I just don't know if its easily sandable. Has anyone used it?

Yeah I agree. But knowing me I would color sand and buff the heck out of it... Just to do again and again to the rest of the truck as i go. Then to do it all again when I'm ready to paint the whole truck. Too much work.
Ironically I don't mind the prime look. I guess because when I see classics with pieces of it in primer; it shows a work in progress.

Re: My predicament, need advice.
This is the gun I have, I've used it for small parts that I don't need to color sand and buff.

Re: My predicament, need advice.
That's the same gun I use ($9.99 with the coupon from Hot Rod Magazine), and it has worked very well for everything I have sprayed. When doing larger jobs-mix a larger batch than the cup will hold so you can fill it quicker. I try to mix enough for 1 coat, then mix the 2nd......

Re: My predicament, need advice.
maybe just paint the clip and not bother to color sand it, then when you do the rest of the truck you can throw 1 more coat on the clip so it blends...

Re: My predicament, need advice.
That's correct, the first link. Another option I've considered to make the gun more convenient is...check to see if a larger replacement paint cup will fit the smaller gun.
