New guy from United Kingdom

Post by 72Richb UK »

Hi Everyone, I've been browsing here for a few months & finally got around to joining recently. My Name is Richard and I live near Southampton on the South coast of the UK.
I own a 1972 F250 long bed with 8 lug wheels, the original engine was the 360 but the PO swapped this out for a 2.5L Ford transit diesel which returns around 30mpg :woohoo: BUT it hates hills with a passion! I've slowly been accumalting parts for a rebuild but due to a spine injury in a car accident back in May ( I wasn't in my truck :D ) I have had to replan my build in to stages.

Stage 1. Should be happening soon, install 1994 Jaguar xj6,xj40,x300 front suspension cross member, hook up manual steering coloumn to Jag power steering rack?, re plumb brakes, flip original rear axle & remove 2 leaves from rear springs. this should get me a 6 inch lowering job all round?

Stage 2. buy Jaguar IRS to match front, discs all round, Chevy bolt pattern. Rebuild warmed over buick 231 V6, approx 200bhp  and overhaul TH350. install.

Between stages do any body work that I can easily get to, various rust needs cutting out, need to learn to weld too :help:

Stage 3. dismantle truck 1 part at a time starting with the Bed, blast back to bare metal, hammer & dolly, weld, curse, weld, smooth, POR15 underneath, epoxy primer the rest. then the front sheet metal work then the cab, when cab is done blow the whole thing apart, blast the chassis and powder coat?? not 100% sure on this as I've heard varied opinions, any input on pro's con's to powder coat or POR15 chassis will be welcomed.

Stage 4. reasemble, new wiring, smooth metal dash top, autometer gauges with modified dash, new upholstery etc etc...

will take some time as I'm a single parent & the truck is now my only driver at the moment..

look forward to any insight and help recieved as I'm bound to require it :help: and getting to know you all.

Regards

other rust areas include cab floors, bulkhead around Drivers side wiper mount :hmm: that'll be interesting to get to! and both corners of the cowl. there will be some modifications and custom metal work as well, tis will be my pride & joy, hardest part is deciding the new colour, she was originally, white roof, candy apple red to bump and white lower. thinking possibly perl white roof with a nice modern metallic dark red est of body & interior OR something really LOUD  will start a build thread and post lots of Pictures as she goes.

take care & happy wrenching

Hi Guerra, it's not ideal but it's what I have from my '80 Olds Cutlass I had 8 years ago I had it warmed over back then to around 200-220 bhp and around 300Lbf torque :hd: & as a single parent I have to make do with what I have, also fuel prices over here are ridiculous, around $3.60 a US gallon. $4.50 UK gallon!! I'm thinking of LPG conversion.. at some stage I'll probably find a good fuel efficient V8 :)
