Post by 676870F100 »

I have a 67 grill but it was painted black - how do I safely remove the paint without hurting the metal

Aircraft stripper won't hurt the metal. It's a nasty process though.

A softer wire wheel should work too, and its what I plan on. Media blasting would be nice, but spendy.

No aluminum grille was painted from factory other than the vertical bars top and bottom.
As was said before use aircraft stripper. Use outdoors, wear gloves and a mask, read label real good.

Check to see if it eats aluminum first. I don't think it should since aicraft ARE aluminum. I didn't think you were talking about an aluminum grill, since they normally aren't painted.

Anyway, any hobby shop, auto parts store, Walmart, or hardware store should have some.
