Hello all. New to this forum...great site! First, a story... I have come across a great (IMO) buy. It's a 1972 F 100 XLT. 99, 148 miles. It is essentially a one owner. The second owner story is interesting. I bought it from the second owner, who only had it a month. He is an 80 year old gentleman who had his 1970 ranger stolen off his farm. He wanted to replace it with this 1972. So, he picked up this truck from an estate where the original owner had passed. He brought this 1972 back, and as luck would have it, a few weeks later the highway patrol recovered his 1970 truck. Not needing two, he placed this beauty out on his farm with a for sale sign. SOLD! The truck has its bill of sale from May of 1972 for a base price of 2,738 dollars, but had several upgrades to ring out at $4,010. The seat, carpeting, dash are immaculate. Original wheels, glass and rubber are all good. It has a two tone green paint scheme and the 4 inch trim with a wood (ish) inlay. The paint looks like it was repainted probably in the 70's, for what reason I don't know.
The truck was worked, and the bed and tail gate are showing moderate signs of wear. I hope to have it repainted with the same paint.
I am not sure at this point whether to make a daily driver out of her, or to start an amateur restoration. It truly is one of the cleanest and unmolested F 100's I've seen. My goal is to keep it that way.
I have spent a few hours researching trim. I cannot find replacement trim or badges except some things on ebay. I'm sure this question gets asked a lot, but I didn't see it in the FAQ's on this site.
My questions for the guys here:
1. Any recommendations for finding the wood inlay for the trim and tailgate?
2. The trim around the headlights is a little rough...any idea where I could find a replacement? The grill is in good shape
3. A friend of mine does antique auto trim. He thought the long trim on the truck has the potential to be added to something he could do. Do you guys think there's a large market seeking trim? Or, have I just not found the places that are making it.
4. XLT badges from the bed are gone: any ideas where I can get them?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Ed

If you are looking to buy new replacement parts, then the following websites are your best options:
Dennis Carpenter - http://www.dennis-carpenter.com/ (probably the best quality, but pricey)
LMC Truck - http://www.lmctruck.com/ford/
National Parts Depot - http://www.npdlink.com/
Macs Auto Parts - http://macsautoparts.com/
There are a few other really good ones, but those top 3 should have you completely covered. For best price and quality, I personally like NPD, but LMC has some inexpensive stuff too.

I redid a tailgate panel for my truck and used vinyl from a company named . http://www.metrorestyling.com/ I bought some off ebay from them but the link i had to it is dead, Could have got tired of ebays rules&rip offs. The quality was good and seemed easy to work with.

I have used Ranger XLT emblems. If you want them you can have them for free just pay the shipping. I have pictures. One of the pins on one of the XLT emblems is broken. Lennyp
