Newbie and '72 Ford F250 Custom from CA to TX
Greetings. I'm thinking about picking up my uncle's '72 F250 Custom pickup in California and bringing it to Texas. This is the truck we used to use when we would go camping and hunting when I was a kid (I'm 55 now). The truck runs, it's a stick, and I used to drive it when I was out there before I joined the Army, which dropped me off in Texas back in '85.
I'm concerned about vehicle registration and emissions testing in TX and any clunker laws that would keep me from using the vehicle once I get it here. I intend to use the truck every day. The truck has less than 100k miles on it, as it was pretty much only used for hunting and camping. Any info about registration and emissions issues would be helpful.
Thanks!
P.S. I did a search but could not find anything useful.
P.S.S. He still has a gun rack mounted on the rear window. Told me I could take the .44 magnum carbine I used to hunt with too. That would probably raise a few eyebrows in CA as I drove away with the rifle on the rack. I don't think they do that there anymore

Welcome aboard!
Sounds like a truck full of memories. The truck only has to pas the emissions requirements effective the year it was built. It shouldn't be too hard to get it to comply. Go get the truck and enjoy it!

from Texas!
Where at in Texas? Mostly the emission testing places are in major populated areas like Austin, Dallas/FW, etc. Even still I don't think a vehicle that old requires testing. All vehicles require a safety inspection as you may know. They are farily easy to pass.

It should not be that difficult to pass any of the inspections you will need. Just think, your going to have a lot of joy driving the truck, reliving all the old memories and also knowing that you are giving the truck a better life in the fine state of Texas!
