Motor ID

Post by ramtoo »

1968 F100 has 360 on Air cleaner but oil drain plug is over frame crossover for motor mounts ,so thinking this is a replacement engine! Oil tube mounts on driverside exhaust manifold bolt Anyone know of a easy ID besides the piston highest point method? Also was starting till I let it go to long between starts this winter. Battery shows 12.4 volts after charge but will not start and wont jump from solenoid. Thinking starter is stuck any suggestions?
Thanks

:wel: from Georgia! Our solenoids are known to go bad suddenly and even be bad right out of the box. Stick a voltmeter on the battery and check for a drop in voltage when you turn the key. Battery may check fine unloaded but have a bad cell and voltage drop under load. Let us know what you find out.

Welcome from SW Missouri. The battery should read from 13.0 to 14.5 volts when charged. Sounds like you've just got a weak battery. Is it sealed, or can you check the acid level and concentration level? Winter always brings out the weakness of almost everything on our old trucks. Good luck.

We probably need to move this topic to either Engines, or Electrical since this is the Welcome Mat. At any rate, Welcome again.
