Floor pan replacement

Post by booblinker »

I bought a truck with blown out floor pans, it came with new one. Just wondering if I can just drop the floor pans over my old ones with some pop rivets or some body seam sealer and have a solid floor.

Probably not a good idea. Moisture and rust will eat up the new ones up.

:yt: Cut the old one's out, leaving about a 1/4" all the way around for overlap. Spread some panel bond around the overlap region and then drill and pop rivet. When done, seal the underside with some silicone, inside and out, then paint over it.

Paint does not adhere to silicone very well.. I suggest automotive seam sealer like 3M's brushable product on the top and bottom of the patch. Btw, it has the consistency peanut butter... smooth.

DEFINITELY cut out the old ones, new ones will rust way faster if against the old one.
