Need help ID'ing these mirrors

Post by flyboy2610 »

These are a set of mirrors that were on a set of '72 doors that my brother-in-law gave me. (I'm going to add power windows and locks.) They were held on by four sheet metal screws screwed directly through the door skin!
They have a feature I really like and that is that they have a fold away feature, which would be really handy for car washes and such. You can fold them in and they 'lock' in place, fold them back out and they 'lock in their original position. You can see the spring housing by the upper bracket.
I'm seriously considering keeping these and getting rid of the west coast mirrors that are on Frodo now.
I know these are not original to the '72 doors, as the holes for the original sport mirrors are still in the doors. Can anybody tell me what these were originally off of? They have no markings of any kind on them, except for "Pat. Pend." on the bracket. It would be handy to know in case I had to replace a part on one of them.
Thanks much!

They look identical to the factory mirrors that came on my '86 Ford van.

they're really common .from the late 70's to the early 90's they were installed on most ford trucks and vans, replacement heads and arms are readily available
there are inserts you can use with them (pretty sure they're aluminum)so you don't have to just screw em directly to the door (or fool around trying to get nuts on from the inside of the door),you just hammer em into the hole and then thread a bolt into em
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

It's good to know they are authentic Ford parts! :)
Thanks for all your help. If I decide to keep them, I'll put the west coast mirrors up for sale next spring (when I take the cover off Frodo and get them out of the cab! )
Thanks again!

When I worked for Ford they were known as Delbar aftermarket mirrors.

Yup, those look exactly like mine. Even has the spring unit on them. The only difference is mine has two bolts. May someone added a bolt for some reason?http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =5&t=68354

Edit: I think someone may have been trying to move the mirrors further out on the bracket. Mine would be on the 'added' bolt, the original is more inboard. Also someone drilled a hole in the curved portion of the bracket, maybe to try to get the mirror head WAY out there!
