WTB: interior handle/pull - Crew Cab rear door

Post by Roodaddy »

Guys,
I don't know the proper term for the square "handle" that goes over the door latch. I can't seem to find a part from LMC or NPD. I need a black one.

Thanks
Bill

I'd like to see a picture of one of those if you have it. If you find a source for them I also need 2 in black.

They do not reproduce them for the trucks, however.... I have HEARD (not confirmed) that these are the same pieces that were in the same era Ford vans... You might start searching for them as a van part, or for the old Ford vans in a pick-a-part. I never followed up on that tip when I heard about that as I have both of the pieces for my crew cab already. But it makes sense. Ford did not develop anything new for the crew cabs other than the roof. The rest of the truck was parts from the standard cabs or elsewhere that they just made a new use for. So it would make sense that these are probably van parts.

I read something over on oldfordcrewcabs about them sourcing this cover from econoline vans. I will do some checking.

I saw some pics. I'm eventually going to have new door panels made and I will find some arm rest instead of this pull/cover. The arm rest may be from something different. I think the '55 care 150 arm rest may work, it's the same on the '55 Chevy trucks. I will have to do some measuring.

Ive never seen them on Bronco Graveyard and I visit that site regularly. Can you post a link to the part? I just went there again and dont see them anywhere. I have never found them anywhere and have looked from time to time. My pair is usable, but if I was able to find "new" ones, I would definately consider replacing mine. Especially if i was able to find metal replacements because the originals were all plastic and I have never seen anything but the plastic ones on crew cabs.

I dug mine out from my parts and finally got around to photographing them as asked... Here is the piece you guys are looking for:

Front:
Image

Rear:

And there is no difference between the right and left pieces, they are the same part number. And if you want to bounce the part number off of NumberDummy or research the part, it is FoMoCo part # C8UB-89224A14-AW

It looks like we are out of luck. NumberDummy can't find any shrouds.

message from NumberDummy:

C8UB-8922414-AW is an Econoline ID engineering number, not a part number. These is no AW suffix listed in my cross reference catalog.

What color is it?

Since there are no Crew Cab specific parts listed, here's the Econoline colors & applications:

1969/70 R/L Front Door Inside Shroud:

C8UZ-89224A14-A (white) / -B (blue) / -C (medium blue) / -D (light blue) / -E (medium green) / -F (light ivy gold) / -G (dark green) / -H (turquoise) / -J (medium beige) / -K (light beige).

Take a look-see at that AW suffix, see if it's actually A1A.

There is no black shroud listed for an Econoline, my master cross reference catalogs shows:

C8UB-89224A14-A1A = C8UZ-89224A14-A1A

A1A is usually a suffix for trim parts that are black.

But no one has this or any of the other colors.

I will look at mine again and see if it is a AW or an A1A.. I looked at it several times (both of them) and double checked my numbers after I typed them, so I am fairly sure I typed them in correctly the first time. But I will check when I get home.

Either way, the ones I have are black. But it makes sense that it is an Econoline part which is what I had heard elsewhere. The crew cabs were custom ordered and they really did not make any specific parts for the crews. Everything was borrowed from other pre-existing parts.

If you ever want to see something crazy, take a look at the window regulator for the rear crew cab doors. Because they cut the doors where the wing windows normallly are, they had to put the window regulators in a new location. So to do this, they had to flip them upside down and used the driver's side for the rear passenger side, and the passenger side for the rear drivers side. But the part that I had no idea about until I stripped my truck down, was that due to the lack of room in the smaller back doors, they cut the regulator bars and had to piece them back together into 3 parts in a strange folding contraption to make the rear windows roll up and down. I have mine out, I should take photos of the standard regulators and the crew cab rear regulators side by side. I already felt dread if anything ever happened to my rear doors because they cannot be replaced and would have to be custom made out of front doors. But then seeing the innards of those doors, it would make in nearly impossible to get these pieces if you didn't have them.

That is crazy. I saw some doors for sale in NC, guy has both front and rear and wants $400. I may see if he will separate and put the rear in my attic.

I wish I knew how much demand there is for these. I would take the one I have of the mech engineers at the office to turn one into a prototype, then shop it around to small plastics companies. I'm guessing the set-up and tooling charges would make it quite an expensive door handle.

BTW...I have heard a number of terms now for this part...bezel, handle, pull, shroud...any others?

Thanks guys!
