New vintage brochure posted: 1971 Ford trucks vs. Ch*vy

Post by FORDification »

Hey all...just spent the past two hours scanning another vintage factory Ford brochure that came in today. It's a 12-page brochure that I doubt any of you have seen before....and is a comparison of the '71 Ford trucks vs. the '71 Che*vy versions.

Image
1971 brochure: How to Pick a Pickup

The scans for this brochure are a little larger than some of the others previously posted, mainly due to what I thought were some excellent pictures, plus some of the text would have been too hard to read had I made it any smaller. Therefore, those of you on dial-up accounts, you have my apologies (and sympathy!) ;) Please be patient while they download....they're worth it, I promise.

Also, on a related note, for those of you who aren't already aware of the fact: Any time I post something new to the site or update an existing area, I make an announcement in the Website Feedback topic area. I've been keeping an eye on the number of visits to the threads I start there, and noticed that those posts don't seem to get very many people reading them. I'm guessing that many visitors are only on for a few minutes and aren't checking out the Website Feedback area, thinking that there's nothing being posted there of interest to them. If this is the case, unless you're browsing through ALL the site's pages on a regular basis, you're missing out on a lot of really cool new additions.

Therefore, I'd like to suggest taking a moment while you're browsing the forums to check out the new posts in the Website Feedback area, to see announcements regarding website updates. I do also post this info to the right side of the site's front page (in the 'FORDification.com News' column), but if you're only checking out the forums, then you really need to make sure you don't miss anything, by coming to the Website Feedback area now and then. ;)

This is by far my most favorite brochure you have posted. I drive a 71 xlt short bed and one of my buddies drives a 69 chevy short bed. His is fully restored and very nice, but the cab is too small. I'm not a big guy, but it felt a little cramped compaired to my ford. I always give him a hard time about his little truck.

I like the brochure! I noticed the underside of the hood... Does this mean they changed the holes in the undersides mid year? So this would be a '71.5-72 change (lack of holes)?

1972 Ford F-100 LWB SOLD 5/2/6

I like my Ford! It's really nice to be able to pop the hood and be able to get to the distributor without having to climb onto the engine.

As near as we've been able to determine here on the forums, yes....there was a change mid-year 1971 to a hood without those holes in the bracing.

 It says in the brochure to notice how the front of the truck does not dip down when you apply the brakes...Its because your not stopping
Also, in the pic where the guy has his hand in a hole in the hood there is another hole beside it, that has a wire in it. What does that go to?

That's for the underhood light. Here's a closeup scan of that area:

...and here's a photo of one installed on a truck:

I learned something else, I have never seen or heard of one of those being on these trucks until now.

That is very cool!
Interesting how they refer to the cargo area as a "Box", I always suspected that "Bed" was a Chebby word that just snuck into the vernacular like "Stepside" instead of "Flareside", now I have proof in writing. Surprised the showed a Chebby with a steel box floor, instead of the warped, twisted wood POS box floor they usually had.

One thing tho, I almost laughed out loud when they were referring to how rust resistant a Ford is. I don't think I've hardly ever seen one without the back of the front fenders, front of the door sill, and usually the cab mounts rusted out from the poor design. But very interesting nonetheless, thanks Keith!
