Home brew rear disks
So the question today is what are some of the home brew disk brakes that have been done on a ford 9" and i mean reliable home brew

Front rotors from a early 90's f150/bronco. rear calipers from a late 70's early 80's full size cadillac eldorado( they have mechanical park brake) and speedway in nebraska sell's weld on universal caliper brackets- get for correct tube diameter and correct caliper hole spacing, gm has 2 sizes If I remember correctly it is the larger of the two but I would measure first, there are some companies that sell bolt on bracket kits but they cost well over a hundred so if you can weld you can save that hundred...have fun!!

Sounds interesting, but sadly after picking through all the junk yards in teh area couldnt find any caddies, no i live in reno so i have like 30 junk yards in a 50 mile radius, found plenty of ford 8.8's with discs tho any idea if the backing plate and all that would be made to work ?

All the parts needed, except the caliper brackets, can be bought new at your local auto parts store for not a lot of money. If your handy, you can make your own brackets. Or, as stated earlier in this thread, you can buy the brackets. No, I have not done this upgrade, but have researched a bit thinking I might take the plunge someday. If the brackets are made correctly and installed correctly, this is safe and sane. The only other option I would even consider would be to take the entire rear axle from a newer truck that came with factory discs.

I put a 9" under my 85 olds cutlass stock car and upgraded it to disc brakes. I used the speedway brackets and rotors. However I had redrilled the axles for the 5x4.75 bolt pattern. I don't think speedway sells the rotors in a 5x5.5 bolt pattern. I used the G body (monte carlo, cutlass, grand prix) brake calipers. I used the speedway steel braided lines as well. I think they sell them for around 10 bucks apiece. Remember that you have to change your proportioning valve if you swap to 4 wheel disc brakes. Your disc front/drum rear proportioning valve will make the rear brakes "grabby".
A lincoln Versailles rearend is very close in width to the bump era 9" and would bolt in or you could rob the parts off of it to swap onto your rear end. They're getting pretty hard to find anymore, but the last time I looked on eBay there was still some brake parts from the versailles popping up every once in a while.

'77-'79 lincoln mark vII is the better choice a simple bolt in and they came standard on the all the marks. You could use the same e-brake cable you just have to fab up a
bracket on your housing. Plus all the
brake hardware can be bought at any parts store reman of course.
