Broken rear drum brake spring

Post by ScreaminZ »

I found a broken spring in my right rear brakes and unfortunately, that spring wasn't included in the hardware kit that I bought. All other springs were included in the kit, but not the one I need. Please refer to this diagram:
http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... ont_01.jpg
The part that I need is in the top diagram labeled 2A601. It is used to keep the parking brake crossover bar centered and to keep it tight so that it does not jingle. My spring was broken and I need to figure out where I can locate a new one. I've looked online and at the local auto parts stores, but haven't found any sources. Does anybody have any idea who may have this part available?

Maybe Dorman. It's called a brake bar spring.
This is all I could find: http://www.tomsbroncoparts.com/product.php?id=1664
Might be the same.

, When I redid my rear brakes the hardware kit didn't include the spreader-bar spring either. I ended up just re-using the old-ones since they were still in good shape and Napa didn't seem to carry them. The link that Bobby gave you would probably be your best bet, not 100% sure if it would work like Bobby had said since it's for Broncos but it might just be the same. I just searched all of the parts sources I can think of to no avail (Napa, Advance, Autozone, Oriellys, and Rock Auto). You MAY be able to find it from a vendor like Dennis Carpenter or NPD perhaps. I do remember seeing some brake stuff in one or both of their catalogs although it would probably be a long shot. Worst case scenario you could get someone to send you a used one, I believe all of the brake hardware is still on the parts truck if that's the case.

*Edit just cross referenced part numbers on Autozone and the hardware kits have different parts numbers ;however, I think it may be just because the Broncos had 11x1-3/4" rear shoes and the F100s had 11-1/32x2-1/4" shoes.

Just got done putting my rear brakes back together....It was a napa kit and that spring was included---what ain't so readily avalible is the metal pc. in front of that spring...the pc that centers it.

Just check through my reciepts and online....with no luck....My truck is a 1970f100 and the local napa hooked me up and then I had to search for that metal pc.
which I found in a bronco rear end

FYI for anybody(and I stand corrected)pg42(retainer clip)pg39(spring)

Interesting. I don't think I've seen that piece before. It doesn't appear to be in the diagram I linked and it's also not on either of my rear brakes. Is it something that I really need?

:dk: if there really needed or not and if it's different from F100...F250 I know on my brakes...it seems to lock it place without movement, because of the top & bottom notch
