Time to put an alternator on my old 1983 Toyota 2wd 22R pickup: 12 minutes
Time to put an alternator on my old 1972 Ford F100 351C pickup: 15 minutes
Time to put an alternator on my friends 2001 Ford Focus 2.0L: 6 hours
On both the pickups it was me myself and I working on it, on the focus I had my friend helping me. In our defense, we had to pull the strut, and lower ball joint to pull the passenger side CV shaft out to get the alternator out of the bottom. And had to go to the store twice to get different tools so we could move the belt tensioner enough to get the belt on. Otherwise it probably would have only been about 3 hours. I just think it's funny how hard the make cars to work on these days.

Re: New cars and alternators
They don't want you to work on your car!!!
They want you to buy a new one
try changeing a heater core out in some of the newer cars you got to pull the dash down and over or all out to get to it
or a water pump thats driven by the timing belt so why your there u just as well get the belt too after unbolting every thing in front of it and jaking up the motor to get to it
THEY DON"T MAKE CARS EASY TO WORK ON ANY MORE

Heater core changes in newer cars=pain in the butt. I helped my friend change the heater core in his '97 F150, you have to pull the ENTIRE dash! Pulling the dash took a couple of hours, and replacing the heater core took a whopping 10-15 minutes at mostfbomb100 wrote:They don't want you to work on your car!!!

Re: New cars and alternators
If you pull the pass side motor mount and slide the motor into the radiator, it takes about 30 minutes. Still major P.I.T.A.
If it's got rust & smoke it WILL make you BROKE
