66 Ford f250 brake conversion

Post by 66_Ford_f250 »

I have searched the internet multiple ways on theis subject but never really get an answer specific to the 66 f250. Yes I know you guys talk much about the 67 and newer. I fit that category to cause I had a 72 f100. I wanted something older and since I cann't afford to bild up a 1934 Ford, Next like was the 1966. I have a pretty basic no frills 66 f250 with 352v8 and a 4 speed, and this is pretty much it. I would like to do two things, the first being to put disc on the front, with vacuum assist booster. I am a fair mechanic and can repair most stuff. I just don't know exactly what pieces and parts and from what vehicle(s) I can bolt up on the 66 for the disc brakes. I would also like to do the power steering as well, but that is not as important. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I am by no means an "Expert", but a few years back I had a '65 F250 Camper Special with drum and I swapped the entire front suspension with Disc Brakes out of a wrecked '70 F250 Camper Special that had disc brakes.

I used an after market, non-booster type, master cylinder due the Brake Light switch being on front the '65 master cylinder and I needed a dual reservoir type master cylinder. Wish I could remember where I got that master cylinder from for you, but it's been over 20 years ago I did that swap.

I'm sure others here will chime in with more accurate information for the brake booster to get you headed in the right direction.

Hope this helps.

i think. now i said think that the 65 and 66 are basically the same as our f250 and you can just do the disc swap without having to do the spindle and i beam swap. but i am not completely sure. just get them from any 65-79 F250. now for power brakes. i think the 65 and 66 are a two year only thing. 67and up wont work becasue of the brake pedal rod length as is with the 67 and it one year only length. so you will need the same booster brackets as our trucks would use. 65-77 1/2. and the correct booster for your year of truck. now i have heard but dont know exactly how to do it. as i only seen it done once. that you can move the brake light switch from the master cylinder to elsewhere and still have it work properly. here is a goo place that can tell you lots more info abou thte 61-66 trucks too. http://www.fordtruk.com/forums these guys will be able to tell you lots more in detail than i can.
