Porta Power man

Post by soulcrushing71 »

So I recently had my front end rebuilt, and went in for allignment they said that the toe was no problem but they couldnt adjust for camber, which is seriously out. They say that the I beams need to be heated and adjusted to regain a neutral camber. Any one else have to deal with this one?

You need to find a shop that can cold bend them.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

:yt: DO NOT let anyone heat your I-beams. The proper was is to cold bend them. Find a good shop that knows how to do it. :2cents:

I'm not familiar with porta power. I watched a local shop bend mine and basically the guy had a large bottle jack with some kind of pivot assembly that would attach to the I-beam and he would "jack up" the jack which would bend the I-beam ever so slightly each jack. He had sensors on all 4 rims so when the front rims were parallel with the rear rims the camber was perfect.

That contraption looks like a pile of hernias and blood-blisters to me. Seems like you could foul up a beam in a hurry if you were to ambicious or inexperienced.

yeah, it looks scary because it's a piece of equipment designated and intented to be used by profesionals (namely dealer or alignment/frame shops ) i wouldn't myself try it in my own truck , a customers truck maybe  .
i guess they were an essential piece of equipment at any alignment shop back in the 70's .just my dos centavos :2cents:
WWHFD? what would Henry Ford do?
