Gear box
Anyone know how close there is too anything by a gear box in a 1967 F-100 4X4 manual steering? I found a power steering gear box from a bronco that goes on the outside where the not PS goes. ( I have my F-100 all torn down as of right now so I cant see if the gear box will have the room from the box too the core support )
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Gear box
From what I know
I think the bronco boxes bolt right in but are pricey. If you have one your already ahead.

Re: Gear box
Doug here are the pictures that you asked for. The top of the gear box says C6AR3580-A the 6 might be an 8 cant tell. I know it was from a full size Bronco. The other tag says SPA-BT 8A 17.

I think
one hole lines up. The lower left one. Then drill the other two. If I recall correct, this is the same box thats on my 67.

Re: Gear box
Thats what I thought too just by looking at it. But how did you put nuts on the other two? They look like they would be behind the cross brace? I cant remenber if the pitman arm needs to be turned around or not either? And what about the shaft did you switch too a differnt column? Are the holes that you drilled too put the the gearbox in are they close too the other holes? And it was ok by the rad support?
Sorry about all the ? Just like too try and get this some what done befor winter hits up here and like too put some paint on it too. Can you put some pictuers of it?
Thanks

Re: Gear box
I will tyr to answer these one at a time
. I think there is acsess holes on the front of the crossmember on the inside of the frame. On mine the pitman arm points forward, if it pointed back when you steered right it would turn left. There is a solution to that but its a whole other story. I left the steering column alone and cut the old shaft, shortened it, and welded it back together. I don't know how close the holes where to the others, and I don't recall cutting the radiator support. I did have to cut the inner fender a bit. I can try to post pics but it might take a couple days, kinda busy lately.

Re: Gear box
Thanks for the replay Doug. The two back bolt hole that I will have too drill out new ones will be inside that cross brace that goes too the other side if i use the front hole.Think i will have too cut a hole in it too put nuts back there and weld up.On mine with no ps the the pitman arm points back, the one I got off of the bronco i think was going too the front.

All the photos are click to enlarge. First pic shows the distance from the box to the radiator support and inner fender trimming. Second and third show the back two bolts going thru the boxed section and the acsess hole in the bottom of the crossmember. Fourth is the acsess hole. Fifth is the shortened shaft. The last shows the box positioned on the frame with the arm pointiong forward. Hope this helps.
