1967 ford f100 newb sensitive steering

Post by bestneverrest1967 »

i recently purchased a 1967 ford f100 shortbed the truck is in pretty good condition mechanically wise i need help with the steering i changed the shocks and all new tie rods whenever i go through a rough road my truck loses control and wants to get off the road also the steering is way too sensitive it is hard to drive becouse any slight movement the steering wheel it swerves all over the road please help me out as im running out of ideas i was thinking it could be the rag joint gearbox or power steering pump the truck does have some camber issues i really like my truck and dont want to get rid of it over this issue i will be posting some pics as soon as i can :D

a bump or uneven road will cause any vehicle with camber issues to pull towards the wheel that goes over the surface. Why does it have camber issues did you lower it ?

sounds like your toe is off. if your wheels are toed in it will look like the wheel is cambered out as well due to force being applied inward on the bottom of the tires. (positive camber). i had a Saturn do this to me. It was like the car was tiptoeing across the road and the tires stuck out at the top. if you let go of the wheel it would start whipping back and forth violently! Did you have the truck aligned after you replaced the tie rods? If so i would have it done again some where else

It's the alignment. Just take it to a different shop and have them check it out.

my impression is that everything is in good working order and you arent use to driving a truck with such good steering. but i could be wrong. have that other shop check the whole steering system out. they will either find it or tell you to drive it like a new truck.
