Doing front disk upgrade, question about trailing arms

Post by kraftor80 »

Hello,
I am swapping front I-beam, disks and steering (including pitman arm) from a 76 F250 into my 70 F250. My question is the trailing arms look different. The 70 is cast and the 76 is pressed? Otherwise they seem the same. Can I swap them too? I see no mention of trailing arms in the tech data on disk break swap.

the radius arms you can either use the stock 70 or switch to the 76 arms doesnt matter they are the same length. i lucked out and got a donor 73 disk setup so i am able to keep my i beams and just put the 73 spindles on since the kingpin size is the same

You can use the '73-'79 radius arms on your bumpside, but if you do, you also have to use the matching front springs. The dentside springs use a different spring cup that won't sit right on the early forged-steel radius arm. You'll be fine as long as you keep use the springs and radius arms as a package, don't mix.

Thanks very much! I was going to keep the 70 springs as they have more turns so I suspect they will be a bit better riding.

The 70 spring ......................The 76 spring

Both seem to have the same length, but the 76 springs have these blocks wedged in. I am guessing this is a method of raising the front a bit either springs compressed over time, or someone wanted it a bit higher.

i thought you could use what ever springs you wanted as long as the cups matched the springs. wont the cups fit on either style or radius arm?
