Backup Light Switch Lever?

Post by sargentrs »

What is this? '71 Ranger, P/S, automatic. Sticking up out of the lower end of the steering column. Looks like it's broken off? Is this, maybe, the lever arm to operate the backup light switch? Is it replaceable or welded on? Anybody got one? Thanks!

That's the lever that operates the neutral safety switch for an auto tranny. It looks fine to me.

Your sig shows a "3-on-the-tree" tranny, so I can't understand why you would have that on your column.

The manual transmission backup light switch is located under the hood, and is operated by the lever that connects to the 1st/reverse lever on the tranny.
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Sorry, just starting on a swap and haven't changed the sig yet. Guess you could say I'm ridin' the fence for a little longer :D

Ok, then, I guess I better get under there and look for what that was supposed to be contacting then. Thanks!

Bolts directly to the column, right? I saw it in vendors catalogs. Expensive little booger ain't it. Saw one on ebay for $25 though. That one goes on the To-Do list for install. Thanks!
