my 72 has a axel flip on it.
this was done before I purchased it.
apparently this was a amateurish first time attempt.
they cut the axle perch off what is now the top and burnt holes though the housing.
I did not notice this until I changed the 3rd member for a posi and they started to leak terribly into the new perch's and all over the springs.
I repaired the housing with JB weld and coated tool dip over it.
no leaks to be seen at this point.
it sits too low for me about a inch from the rim so I put air shocks on it but do not get much lift because of the shock angle.
I have to jack it up by the hitch and put air in it so I get about 2" lift from it.
it sits just where I want it there but gives me wheel hop and a stiff ride.
does anyone have a way to rise it without flipping a axel back over so I can put less air in the shocks?
it also has the stock overload springs on it.
could I just bolt them in straight and get rid of the overload shackles or adapt another type of shackle?

Re: suspension question
You could try an "Add A Leaf".
Basically it's a very arched leaf to add to your spring pack.
Usually used for off road, it tends to stiffen the ride.

Re: suspension question
do they make a Add A Leaf for under the leaf?
all I see is for over the top.
I thought about just putting traction bars on it for now.
just to get rid of the wheel hop.
its not like i'm on it all the time but in the rain it dose
spin going around corners.
I can be easy on it but if I have to pull into traffic in the rain
its a pain in the butt.

You have to disassemble the leaf pack and install the Add A Leaf.oldblue wrote:do they make a Add A Leaf for under the leaf?

Yeah an empty truck and wet pavement is not a good combination.oldblue wrote:I can be easy on it but if I have to pull into traffic in the rain

Re: suspension question
i cant say for sure. but what i think is that the air shocks and the spring being in a different place is why the rougher ride. i do not know for sure how to fix your problem the way you have the requirements of not putting the axle back where it was and keeping the ride height where it is now.
