new gear box

Post by Roadrunner351w »

I put a new gear box in my truck because the old one leaking fluid everywhere the seals were totally gone. Anyway how can I get this thing to stop making noises? It acts like it is low on fluid. Do I have a air pocket in there somewhere and if so how can i get rid of it? Thanks in advance

I also modified a GM steering to work in my old ford now I have Tilt wheel and bright and dimmer switch and ignition key and wipers all on the column. That was fun and the reason for doing it that was because I already had the steering column from an old van. it was just the challenge aspect of it.

Hello RoadRunner351W

Are you running over sized tires? That will make it whine and you probably know that. You might have also tightened something to much. Those are my quesses.

Yea I do have over size tires but before the other gear box went out it did not whine like that this whine is almost like the thing has air in it over maybe the pump is going out it only does it when it is in a bind.

You most likely still have air in the system. Jack up the front wheels and start your engine. Turn the wheels lock to lock without bottoming out the steering. Cycle through this about a dozen times and make SURE your pump has right amount of fluid.

This was recommended to me a few months ago by someone on this forum and it worked great for me. Whining gone...at least on my truck. Now if I could just get my wife....never mind
