Its a charcoal filter it vents the gas tank, traps the gas fumes from the tank. It think that 69 was the last year for the vented filler cap.

The change was made late in 1970.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

My truck's a 71, but the motor is from a full-size car (casting# D1AE). Any idea when they stopped putting those on the Custom/Galaxie/LTD?

It depends on what state you are in. None of my Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico bought trucks came with them.

It doesn't depend on the state, it depends on the truck. All 67-'69 trucks had a vented filler cap. And IIRC, all '70-'72 F100s got the evap controls, '70-'72 F250/350 did not.

Kieth, I hate to disagree, but you and I have discussed this before.

Like I posted earlier, it was a mid-year change on the 70 F100's.

The MPC doesn't designate a change point, but I can tell you that my truck, J11133, doesn't have it, and I know for a fact it's all original.

For 71/72, you're correct. The MPC shows that all F100's have it.

The P/N for the 70's that have it is D0AZ 9D653-C, and for 71/72 it's D1AZ 9D653-A.
