booster for drums?

so I noticed on the "big Red" thread http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a

that he appears to have all drums and a booster - is this possible?

Does that mean I can add a booster to my all drum '67 F100 2WD Manual ? - if so anyone know the parts I need ?

Sure it's possible...all a booster does it make possible to stop the truck with less pedal pressure. You'd simply need the booster with mounting brackets, a vacuum hose from the booster to the intake manifold, and a nipple screwed into the intake manifold runner. Just unbolt the master cylinder from the firewall and the brake pedal and pull it forward away from the firewall (don't disconnect the lines), pull the master cylinder pushrod out of the master cylinder, slide the booster in and bolt it up to the firewall and brake pedal, and then bolt the MC to the booster. Attach the vacuum hose to the intake manifold nipple...and you're done.

The only problem is....you have a '67, which means you'll either have to find a '67-only booster, or swap in the '68-'72 brake pedal assembly and then use a '68-'72 booster.

thanks for that Keith.....that seems a good way to get some "more" braking for the weekend driver - than doing a whole disk setup swap ??

- does autozone or someone sell the 67 only booster - is the actuating arm the same ?

the 67 booster has its own lenght rod that goes to the brake pedal. autozone did sell the booster and the master as one piece for about 115.00 plus a core charge.

I just did this on my 69 with drums all around. I installed the new booster with a new master cylinder.

Since I had already collected all the parts and had refinished everything, the conversion itself took less than 1 hour. The difference is amazing and certainly well worth the small investment.

I bolted one on my 70 off of a 72 CS and my leg still gets tired holding the brake and clutch at stop lights but they do seem to help.
