heres the situation:
guy has a welder for sale. guy will be out of town all week. guy says he will make me a good deal on a welder that is a little smaller than I want, tonight only. doesnt include a gas bottle, since its 7 pm sunday night, I cant price a bottle at the local welding shop. I dont need a big bottle, a small one will do fine. Ive seen some about 2.5 ft tall. how much will one cost me to buy, not rent?

Re: welding bottle cost
If I remember correctly a smaller cylinder will run you about $150 give or take a bit, then about $20 to fill it at your local welding supply house. You could probably do some flux first and keep looking for a used cylinder, just make sure it's new enough that it's still refillable

I bought mine, was about 150. The guy at the welding supply place they will pretty much pay for themselves in about a year or so. That was for 75/25 co2/argon about 35 bucks to refill

The only problem with flux is that you cant weld over it with straight wire after that! Been there and done that. Keep that in mind before you weld. JMHO

Re: welding bottle cost
Straight CO 2 will work for steel but a C25 argon mixture will make a smoother weld.
If you're grinding and filling over it it may not matter , but for appearance it might.
Also if your doing body work over flux core , clean it up as best you can.
Sand blast if possible because the flux can react with the body filler.
