Blown soft plug???

Post by 72bumbee »

Saw an ad for a 72 Ford Truck. The ad claimed it had a "blown soft plug". What does this mean? Has someone used marshmallows as gaskets??

I agree, the seller is probably refering to a failed freeze plug.

If it is just rusted through it probably isn't a big deal, just replace them, if it was actually pushed out by freezing, it may not be the only damage.

When i replaced the motor in my 68 I didnt put anti freeze in it. Just water to run it after instalation. It froze that night and popped the freeze plugs. I drained the rest of the sytem put the plugs back in added the corect amount of 50-50 and have been driving it ever since. That has been over 10 years ago.

One of my freeze plugs was replaced with a rubber expandable plug. Its been holding for 8 years, that is probably the soft plug that is blown, just put another one in there.
