Engine Swap Question
I have a 1968 f100 that came factory with a 240 inline 6 / 3 on the tree. I want to keep the three speed but want a little more power. I need to know what year motors are easy swaps and will mate to the transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Engine Swap Question
the transmission has a removeable bellhousing. so you can put in any size motor you want as long as you have the right size bellhouisng. you current bellhousing will fit 240 300 302 351w and 351c engines. they made the 302 and 351w up into the 1990's. the best small blocks to use would be before 76 probably because of the emmissions stuff.

Re: Engine Swap Question
As asked, the easiest change would be to use a 300. Everything should just bolt on with no change0ver problems.

Re: Engine Swap Question
Or you could even keep your 240 and just do some work to it, add the normal go-fast goodies, like intake manifold and carb, header and free-flowing exhaust...maybe a cam.

Re: Engine Swap Question
Thank you guys very much. I have given serious thought to keeping the 240 and upgrading it in order to get more out of it, but I am not sure if it will be enough. The truck was bought brand new by my grandfather and only has 86k miles so i want to be careful with what I do to it.

Hummm. If it's real clean, I'd leave it as is. It's quite possible it would be worth more
original. And with 86k, that engine should have plenty of life left.
Of course, if the truck is not super clean, I guess it might not matter as much.
Course, I may also be biased a bit being as both my trucks have the 6 bangers.. :/
I don't mind them so much being as they tend to save on gas a bit.
My 74 F-100 has a 240 with about 120k or so. Still runs good. The 240 has a
shorter stroke than the 300 and can rev a bit higher. I've got a 300 in my 68..
The main difference I see between the two is the 300 has a good bit more torque
for work, pulling, etc. The 240 is not quite as torquey, but is good on the highway.
