lifter shaft openings

Post by tboy »

On a 1967 352 engine does it matter if the oil openings are facing up or down? On a schematic it shows them up but mine face down. I no longer have any oil pressure and was looking for the source when I noticed this.

:hmm: I think he means the rocker shaft.
If memory serves me I believe the holes go down, that's where the rocker's pressure is.

But that won't effect your oil pressure.
What do you mean no pressure?
not much? or none? Did you check it with a good mechanical gauge?

Thanks, I finally took the engine down, replaced all bearings, and had engine boiled clean and the pressure returned. There was no meaurable pressure with any gauge. Although I did not identify the source of the problem I did get it fixed. I probably should have overhauled the thing to start with but it ran so good I thought I didn't need to spend the money. Live and learn.
