Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
Im going for dual exhaust someday, so the question is exit out the sides in front of the rear wheels or up and over the rear axle and straight out the back? Pics welcome.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
i like rear dump. becuase of one reason. the exhaust smoke can go up onto the side of the bed and ruin the paint. one reasone i dont like rear exhuas tthoug. is becuase you can get burned when messing around the back near the tailgate. but i woudl rather be more careful than have to clean the side of the bed everytime i drive the truck.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
Like everyone, I assume, I have thought about many different options; side exit, rear exit and dumping it somewhere under the truck and I think when I do mine, I will exit out the rear at an angle behind the rear tires. It may sound a little generic, but I think you can add a little spice with tip style and angle. We'll see. It all comes down to personal opinion.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
I have been running dumps on my Dodge since it was new. Flowmaster Mufflers + dumped exhaust = DRONE.
Here lately I have been enjoying the rear exit pipes on my 71'. I vote rear exit.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
Even with turbo mufflers it will drone if it's dumped under the bed. Been there, done that. Actually I've tried pretty much every exhaust configuration there is and I STILL have a hard time deciding between side exit (behind the rear wheels) or rear exit out the back. If you use tips they will get dirtier much quicker if they exit out the side, but the sound of the exhaust echoing off of everything you drive close to is beautiful music! I like the look of it out the back on my crew, but the exits are so far back that I don't hear near as much as I would like.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
Side exit behind the wheels.
Looks more like it was meant to be that way.
Mine go straight out the back now, and I really don't like the look. I'll go for the side exit when I do the resto.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
To take away the drone put the mufflers under the bed not under the cab.
Personally I like them coming out right in front of the rear tires. 45 degree angle so they are putting the music away from you, but you can still hear it. My '72 Chevy c10 is set up this way and I am told it is a loud truck. I never thought is was, til my wife drove it one day. I could hear her coming out of town a mile away. Sounded sweet, but that's just me.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
I have out the side and in front of the rear tires on both our trucks. I just love hearing the pipes. I will probably do the same when I have them replaced.

Why is it that the trucks are always the best running vehicles in the family?

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
somebody told me they had luck eliminating drone by wrapping the mufflers with thermal tape.
i vote side exit behind the tires.. it sounds amazing when you are screaming up a hill next to the center divider. but i just like to be able to hear it

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
I put it in the stock location. I also don't see the obsession with "hearing" the exhaust. I don't want to hear it. My trucks run just as good as everyone else but nobody can hear me coming.
Both have single tail pipes in stock location. My Hi-boy has a 3" with a "Big Block" Flowmaster and I'm tired of listening to it. My '68 has a Dynomax Super Turbo HD and I like the quietness of it. I don't have to yell at my passenger.

Re: Dual exhaust Side or Rear exit?
I'd vote for side exit behind the tires.
The reason that I do not like rear exit is we use our trucks as trucks here in Ga. If I back up against a hill or down into a ditch I do not want to plug my pipes with mud.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
