Top Choppn

Post by GreaseMonkey »

I have been contemplating with the idea of choppn the top about 3-4 inchs on my truck. The easiest way I could think of to do this is to cut out what I want, and then add a section off of another roof skin outta a junk yard soes I dont have to mess with changing the angle of the front supports. Then for the doors cut out what I want and section them like I did the roof with pieces scalped from the junk yard. I want to run full door glass cause I dont want the vent windows. Either leave the original outter door handles, shave them, or use 69-82 Corvett outter door handles. Tell me what you think, any better ideas, or whatever. Thanx,
Don

Id love to see a nicely chopped Ford truck, cant say as Ive seen alot either. Not of the 67 - 72 years. Ive seen lots of articles on how to do it in car and truck magazines. Lets see some pictures of any chopped Ford trucks!>

i not so big on chopping these trucks. 3 to 4 inches is alot. i think a 1 to 1 1/2 inch chop would be cool. other then that they looks funny to me. heres some pics of a chopped top. i think it would look better with less chop..makes it look like a long bed.

I would say that is a nice job and it's pretty cool. I agree about chopping too much. It's a fine line...

I like the look a chopped top brings to these trucks as long as it is not too much. I'd like to see a hardtop convertible conversion ala Ford Skyliner on one. It would be interesting. :D

What kinds of problems did you have? Do you just bend the pillars to me the roof at its new height or what?

when you chop the top your making everything longer wider like the doors so you have to section and strecth the door frame and also you have to weld it a a differrent angle
