re: brake lines

Post by FORDification »

Hey, that's what the forums are for! ;)

Incidentally, the factory brake lines are 3/16".

Those Jeg's lines are stainless steel and pre-flared, which is good, since it's very hard for the average guy to do the good necessary double-flare on stainless lines. I'm not sure how long the line you broke is, but you'd have to get whichever is closest but still longer, and then make it fit by slightly bending it to take up the slack.

Their prices aren't bad either....but you can get regular steel lines from any parts supplier for a few bucks less and cut/bend/flare it yourself to exactly duplicate the factory bends. I did ALL the brake lines on my truck (with new fittings) for less than $30. And the 3/16 lines don't really require a bending tool unless you're doing very sharp bends, which a standard bending tool can't do anyway, so all you'd need is the double-flaring tool. I was actually very pleasantly surprised on just how easy it was to do.

In the long run, I think you'd be better off either finding a stainless set that is already specifically prebent for your truck or doing it yourself with readily-available steel lines.

You can get the rear axle tubes prebent from Inline Tube.

15.00 IIRC.
