MYSTERIOUS CARB SPRING

is this installed correctly, i know bout the part that clips over the stem needle valve. but you see the metal spring n the right. it goes straight down, long siver spring. is that installed correctly. its making fuel squirt everyewhere

No, you have it installed backwards. Just flip it around 180 degrees from where it is now and slide it back on the shaft.

I just rebuilt mine and did not have that spring either.

The diagram says that spring is for "4x4 models only" and calls it a damper spring. I suppose it's to keep the float from being affected by jostling around off road.

if that spring changing doesn't work try getting a brass float instead of that foam type of float.

It doesn't look like the float pivot retainer is installed correctly either, which is why the fuel is coming out the top of the carb. it should lock into a groove in the seat...

The retainer clip (shaped like this [..) to the left of the brass float pivot rod must be pushed down into the groove at the top of the needle seat. That is why you have fuel leaking out the top.
