3 engines 1 truck decisions

Post by fordman »

i got a 4x4 today. with no enigne. i have 3 engines to put in it. all of them need something to put them into it. i have a 240 a 351m and a 360.

the 240 need to be unstuck it was rebuilt but never ran so its now stuck in the cylinders so that means atleast a head gasket to hopefully unstick the rings. i woul dalso need some exhaust pipe for it. i might have something that may fit but i'm unsure.

the 360 will need a bellhousing to be installed into the truck. i would have to go out to the junkyard and pull a bellhousing out of a truck with help from the junk yard to pull the enigne or transmission.

the 351m is a duraspark motor. i think i would put a timing chain in it and make the change a zero setting timing chain to get the motor to run better than ford made it run for emissions standards. i would also have to drill the extra mounts bosses in the rear of it to mount that engine to the smallblock bellhousing i have for it.

so i am leaning towards the 351m or the 360. i think the 240 would cost too much to rebuild it again and it would decrease the resale valve of the truck if and when it ever got resold. i would like to just use the 360. i think it would be the easiest choice though. but i can always resale a 360 by itself. i have had bites on the 351m but i don't want to deliver it that far away.

what i am trying to do is get rid of some of these engines one way or another. and that also counts when making my decision.

so bottom line. why would you use which engine? for resale or regular use its just going to be a wood cutting truck. i doubt it will ever see any hard use. i'm not one to go get stuck on purrpose. or try drving down into a creek. maybe just ford a creek. i think the 240 would be a great engine and all of that. i just don't have the extra money to do a rebuild for personal use right now. i woul dlove to use the 351m but i have the 360 needing a place to get out of the truck its in now. the rest of the enignes are in storeage so they aren't hurting anything yet.

I would use the 360, but I'm quite partial to the FE motors.

I agree 360 out of what you have...

An EFI 300 would be cool...

If it were for me, I'd put the 240 in it as they do well in what I use 4wd's for. As there is potential of resale though, I'd put the 360 in it and save the 351 and 240 for later use. The 360 just looks better under the hood as far as resale goes (fills the engine bay better).

360. you wont be disappointed if its gonna be a work truck. you could probably even add the duraspark system from the 351 to the 360 if you wanted to.

360 all the way. 240's are great but not in a heavy 4x4. A 300 would be 20 times better than the 240. As far as hurting the resale value of the truck, if you put the 351M in it, that is exactly what you'd be doing. You can do a refresh on the 360 and it'd be a great work horse engine.

Sweet deal!
Another vote for the 360. Hard to beat cubic inches. :)

hard to beat a heavy-duty, extremely reliable engine with loads of torque.
