ok, i posted this once before. my 71 pulls hard to left on acceleration up to about 50 mph unless you back off the throttle , it jumps straight. thought it was in the brakes, it wasnt.
king pins are good, bushings are new. brakes are new. so a guy tells me the other day he had the same prob with a chevy. the problem was in the rear axle. his was limited slip and so is mine. sorry for putting the word chevy on a ford page. but i have never herd of this , and wondered if anyone else had ever herd of it. he had to rebuild the 3rd member and that fixed it. i have not touched the rear end on this truck yet

I myself have never had that problem but I have been told about a few people with that problem. I go to the drag strip as much as I can and thats were I've herd people talking about the same thing. Make sure all your bearings and everything in the front end is good first before go to rearend.

Re: pulls hard to left
I'd start checking the rear suspension. Look at the springs where they bolt to the axle housing. If you see rust spains chances are the spring is moving on the axle housing. A broken center bolt in the spring pack could cause this. Also look at the springs themselves. When under hard acceleration the springs twist upwards. Broken leaves will make one spring weaker than the other and the weaker spring will twist farther.

Re: pulls hard to left
i have all new bushings in the front end. i have checked the rear springs, dont see any cracks. i did find a minumal movement in the rear wheel bearings. but not enough to cause it to do this. it does it under normal acceleration. say leaving a stop sign or stop light. not taking off hard either ,it will pull until you let off (birp the throttle) then it straights right up.here is the wierd part, it wont do it cold, only after it has driven a few miles. i drive it 25 miles to work one way every day. it will do it after about 7 miles. just notice it there i guess sense that is the first stop light i come to. i guess i might take it to frame shop i know of in tulsa, let them check it out.

Re: pulls hard to left
Sounds like something( bearing-bushing?) is getting hot and causing alot of friction.

nope, nothing getting hot. drums are cool, axles are normal warm. i dont have hub caps on so i can stop, touch them. it almost seems like a spring perch, but i dont see any movement. i even jacked it up took a comelong and pulled fwd and back. no movement. i have to pull the rear axles in the next week or so to put the new bearings and seals on. so i am going to pull the thirdmember at that time and check it out too.
maybe something will show up.
it does have some slack in the rear end. it will clunk , reverse to drive, and vise versa. but not a lot. well not for a 37 yr old truck. when i do figure it out. i will post it for sure. i thought for sure it was in the front end, bushings were shot when i got the truck. but all that is new. HMM
what fun. i do love my though. i have a79 also, just started on it.

Re: pulls hard to left
brake fluid soaked shoes can make the brakes pull when you put on the brakes. but the chevy guys fix sounds more likely to me.
