Where to get brake line clips? (SOLVED! Now with pics.)

Post by robroy »

Good morning,

Here are the clips I'm talking about (one off and one installed):

Does anybody know of a source for these clips?

When it comes to the fuel lines especially, I've found that if I bend the clip up enough to get the fuel line under it, the clip stays bent! I can't smash it back down to its natural shape, so it doesn't hold the tubing very snugly against the frame. Same goes with the brake lines although it's less pronounced with those.

Perhaps I'm missing the point--is the proper way of installing tubing under these to bend the clip up, or remove the clip all together? These don't look like they'd take kindly to being removed and reused.

Thanks very much!

Okay thanks Fordman! I know that Inline Tube sells lots of clips; I'll try them first.

Thanks again,

Inline Tube doesn't have any that match our factory clips, but I did wind up ordering some of these stainless clips from them:

They'll bend the tubes slightly from their stock mount points but that's no big deal--at least the tubes will be held tightly to the frame this way.

Thanks!

Also, the stock Ford clips are the same size for both the 3/16" brake lines and the 5/16" fuel lines, which doesn't seem ideal since the brake lines can wobble around a little in the clips. These stainless clips are for each size specifically; hopefully they'll make it nice and snug.

I wound up getting the clips from Inline. In order to use a bolt that fits nicely in the stock frame holes, I needed to drill the clip holes out a little, which was no big deal. Here are some photos of these clips installed; they are WAY more sturdy than the factory clips since they're held on with nuts and bolts instead of plastic arrow heads:

Whoops, no clips in that last photo. I'm just showing off my fancy new stainless tubing!

Thanks for reading,

What's the inline box in the last photo?

Hey Steve! That inline box in the last photo is a proportioning valve, also known as a metering valve (I believe). I think it raises or lowers the hydraulic pressure to the disc brakes (I'm not sure which). Its input is the distribution block (which houses the brake warning lamp switch) and its outputs are the disc brakes.

Doesn't your '350 have one of these valves? Or does your '350 have the Heavy Duty (12x8.5" brakes on front and rear) option?

Thanks!

That box is between the front and rear? It looked like it was between the two fronts. My F350 has 12x3 drums front and back. I have all the front disc stuff from a '77 F350 for a future project. I have to spend my time and money on some rust issues first, them get the rear springs re arched, after that, I'll start on the disc brake project.

Hey Steve! The box has three connections going in to it. One goes to the distribution block and the other two go to the front wheels (to the disc brake calipers). So it's between the front wheels.

Those sound like some massive drums brakes on your '350!

Thanks Steve!

Good day,

I apologize for duplicating this information both here and in Should I replace this dented stainless brake line?, yet I wanted to follow up on this thread.

I found my receipt for these clips today! Here it is. Y'all can click on it for a much larger version.
