He went to Harbor Freight and picked up a small fold-up utility trailer like this one for $200. These things have ample load capacity and with a 4x8 dimension, is just the perfect size for transporting the bed. He simply unfolded and assembled it in the driveway in about 20 minutes. He'd mounted some 2x6's across the front and back of the trailer to hold the bed up a bit higher, and drilled holes down through them which line up with the pickup bed hold-down bolts. So after we lifted the bed off the truck chassis and set it down on the trailer, he just had to bolt it down to the bed and then drive off into the sunset. Very cool idea, Rob. I just thought you all might like to see the result....'cause it's a heck of a cool idea and a slick way to transport a bed, and when you get back home, you still have a nice little utility trailer. Here's a shot of him getting it bolted down to the trailer.

...and just for the record, Rob and I were able to lift this truck bed off the chassis by ourselves and set it on the trailer. Granted, it was HEAVY, and we wouldn't have been able to go very far, but with the trailer right next to the chassis, where we could lift if off and then just move over a few feet and set it down, the whole thing took about 20 seconds. (Well, not counting the first two times we tried to lift it off before realizing that the exhaust pipes were still bolted to the bottom of the bed....but that's a whole different story!)
