Hi gang, I'm just wondering if it is better to spend 3k on a new remanned 302 or spend the little bit more for the 4.6 mod engine like in the bump buildoff.
my other thought was to find a wrecked ford with a 4.6 mod that the rear was the dammaged part.
i guess the biggest question is would the 4.6 have anything over the 302 worth the extra $$$$?

The 302 has more power (torque) the 4.6 is a rocket motor winds quick in a modern light weight F150 but in an older and heavier truck a 300 will out pull it and a 302 will out run it.
Find a roller cammed 302 and tweak it a little.

I've also heard that only a few highly skilled people can rebuild a modular.
Other than that it's a throw away engine.

Ford doesn't rebuild them they replace them. 4.6 drive till it breaks and swap it out.

I agree but the sohc 4.6 is hella fun in a 2000 GT 5 speed mustang conv.

Funny about Ford I had a pushrod 4.0 V6 in an Aerostar and I test drove a SOHC 4.0 V6 in a Explorer and had less power. They only used that Pushrod 4.0 in Aerostars and Tauruses.
It is not always good to buy the highest tech Ford engine for the tech alone. Experiments can come back and bite oneself.

ok i may have a line on a roller 302. then the question is 4bbl caarb or mfi/efi.
I guess right now mine just needs the basic overhual and new seals and some valve/head work.
burns a quart a week and smokes like freight train at startup.
I bet a roller motor from an 80's-93/94 in a junk yard could be 100-500.
then built from there another 1000?
