It would be a big negative for me, I actually like the way it looks and since my old 68 didn't have a tailgate I think I will keep the one I do have now just the way it is.

Im planning on doing this on my 67. Want to put a flush mounting roll bed cover so i want to have it so no will just open the tailgate when they cant get in from the top
Im going to put a patch panel over the old indent and make it look like it was never there.

thats my concern, i don't know if there will be clearance after you install the relocated handle on the inside to just weld in a patch panel. i don't want to skin the whole tail gate, because im going to put the F O R D script panel on it. i don't want to buy the relocater kit until i know. there are other options for a latch.

What do you mean by skinning? Why not cut out the handle indentation and then weld a patch in place. it would then have space just like on either side of the handle. Unless im not following... :?

using a patch panel is what i want to do. i am unsure if there would be clearance for the patch, not knowing how the new latch would be made. i'd hate to spend the $ and not be able to use it.

I have never done it but I did buy a spare tailgate to try it on for $30 so when I buy a nice tailgate and put the skin on it I will not have to spend the $70 on the handle relocation kit.

I figure it will be good to know how to do it anyway and maybe I can do a writeup on it later. Sorry that doesnt help you now

There is a relocation kit available from LMC, but the last time I looked it was $100 + bucks. It comes with a template, the patch panel, and I believe the new latch rods.
