Need Help with a body gap.

Post by CO684X4 »

Ok here is the deal I'm picking up a new bed for my F100 next week. I have recieved lots of pics from the owner of the bed. In one of the pics It shows that when the rear tailgate is up there is a gap between the tailgate and the body. Look at the picture below. I have spoken with the owner and he can not figure out why it is like that. He says nothing looks bent. From all the pics of the area that he has sent I cant see whats causing it. Anyone have any Ideas?

Has he run it without the tailgate for a few years?

Or maybe that side is sagging out due to rust

He just bought the truck a few months ago for the cab. The reason the bed sits kinda wierd is that he was in the middle of taking the bed off and is propped up on the right side. From all the pics of the areas I asked for there is now rust on this bed.

i know that alot of desert offroad race trucks, all the wanna be's take their tailgate off (and then the call it an offroad truck :D ) and there bed's always do that. the tailgate supports the whole rear. keeps the bedsides together. ive seen many pictures of that. usually ALOT worse, but thats because they offroad abuse them.

must of been ran with no tailgate or the tailgate down or something :dk:

im sure it could be fixed. maybe put a ratchet strap on that side going to the other side and increase the intensity of the strap every once in a while, im sure it will slowly bend back. just an idea :dk:

let him know that there is definately a problem and he should drop the price unless he allready dropped it because of that.

Ive already talked him down to a really great price. Its worth getting even with the gap issue. I will try and get it figured out when I get it. Looks like the truck had a big lift so it probibaly had some body flex from wheeling.
