How close can a brakeline be to the headder???
You guys are probably tired of all my questions but how close can I run a brakeline to my exhaust? In one spot I probably have less than 2 inches between a line and the headder. Is this a no no?

Should be allright but it wont hurt to fab a small heat shield, would only matter sitting in traffic with no airflow.

rumor has it, if you can put a zip-tie around the line & it doesn't melt..you're ok. Tried that theory out on the 46 & it seems to hold true.
As a metter of fact, i AM trying to keep up with the Jones'

Re: re: How close can a brakeline be to the headder???
Never heard of that, I do know I have run my truck for a little over a year after getting new break lines and when I did my cab swapthere was a line that was professionally installed (How Do They Earn That Title) that was almost touching an exhaust header. I moved it now, but as far as I know it never caused me problems. I am going to use the Zip-Tie theory and try it out, because my lines are still close as well. But I have also heard of boiling the break fluid, and jacking up a master cylander as well.fitzwell wrote:rumor has it, if you can put a zip-tie around the line & it doesn't melt..you're ok. Summit has it, but darn if I can find it after searching for 10 minutes...
A type of wire loom that is heat resistant that can be slid over the lines.

Asphaltic loom...used to be available at napa. You could also use the boots that MSD/Belden sells to go around the spark plug boots to prevent burning, but that's gonna get expensive REAL quick.basketcase0302 wrote:Summit has it, but darn if I can find it after searching for 10 minutes...

i am unsure about the distance of the lines to the heat. i do like the method of the zip tie. that would be a great test. the heat resistant covers would be good for fixing the problem i bet.
on mid 80's ford vans they had a problem with brake fade while running the a/c. it was something about it would make the brake fluid boil. i dont know any more than that. i just know it happened to me when we ran the company van a/c and the brake quit and caught fire. that was fun. we were in north dallas area when it happened.
