the mast isnt original . to take it off you have to pop up that chrome plate and remove the four screws underneath it.

just snake it in. its not that hard to get the wire back in. or if you want just take the chrome part off of the antenna and slide it up the mast and off and then paint over the base of it. its bad practice to do that but it is a alternative to putting it back in.

ill just take it off and snake it in.
i forgot that i can just take out the grommet, and then put the grommet back on the antennae wire and put it back in the sheet metal.

thanks

You also can cut the old coax off the old one and use zip ties to fasten the end of the new one on it and snake it in this way. This makes a much easier and faster job of it.

i think he just wants to remove it for painting and not replacing. but that is a good idea to pull cables and wires through tight places.

yeah i need it off because of painting.

i did use that method when replacing my 71's antennae though  works good.

i just took the antennae out. ill pop the grommet out and put a new one in when i get to the assembly point of the project.

Along the same lines as Foggy's idea, you can tie a string to the cable before you pull it out, then use that string to pull the cable back in when you reinstall.

But it sounds like you already pulled it, so that idea is out.
