Hello from Utah
Thanks to all of you who have provided great, helpful advice and encouragement.
Meet Otis, my new 1968 F250. I'm pretty sure the motor is a 360 (the VIN decodes that way) rather than the "390 motor" which the seller claimed. It still runs pretty good, and shows about 92000 miles.
So far, with your help, I've rebuilt the 2V Autolite 2100. You all were right--not too bad a job.
New fuel pump, new front calipers, and several cans of engine degreaser later, the motor looks and runs strong.
I'm now debating an $850.00 short block 390 and putting a 4V manifold and carb, or perhaps just sticking with the present motor, and perhaps a 4V manifold and carb. I like the idea of building up the short block and putting in a fresh engine. Please chime in at this point
Yes, I know the aux. tank gas cap fell off. I had it on there loose, because if it's tight, the vacuum formed by the engine drawing out the gas will cause it to die. So I guess I'm in the market for a vented cap? I did replace the cap right after this photo.
The good news is Otis just passed safety AND emmissions. With my rebuilt carb! and new brakes! I'm fairly new to this old truck stuff, seeing as how Otis is 2 years older than I.
Six months ago, carbs were a mystery box run by magic. Now I think I pretty much get it, and they are a thing of beauty (as long as they keep running )

re: Hello from Utah
A hearty welcome from California to both Otis and J-Dub! The 4v will make that 360 feel like a 390... but I like the idea of building up another motor the way you like it. I say go fer it!

Welcome from North Carolina, I would have never started my project without this site. Nothing like a camper special, wish I had one.

re: Hello from Utah
I also say go for the rebuild. I'm planning on the same thing. I'm keeping my truck driving while I build a motor at my leisure. Then, I'll swap them in a day and be back up running in no time (hopefully leak free!).
Oh yeah, nice truck and welcome from Idaho!
