This website is absolutely the best I have ever come across. I've been reading thru all the information everybody has presented. lurking in the shadows for quite a long time now. I own a 1970 F-250 2wd, newer 390, C6 automatic, overall it's in pretty decent shape. Found it while browsing thru craigslist 3 years ago and decided to drive down to Kirwin Kansas to go pick it up.
Mechanically it was a mess, the people I bought it from were using it to tow a fifth wheel trailer and the hitch was only bolted down to the box and not the frame. The brakes were shot, engine out of tune, many bolts missing, gauges not working, steering loose, electrical wires hanging, windshield pitted badly, exhaust and fuel tanks leaking, everything very dirty inside, well you get the picture.
It was an adventure to drive it all the way back here, with all the before mentioned problems, but it made it with no breakdowns. Luckily as I found out later, the adjusting sleeve on the inner tie rod end didn't come undone on the interstate as neither of the bolts holding it together were tight and you could spin it around by hand. I will always be sure to double check critical systems on a vehicle I purchase before driving it any long distance for now on.
None the less everything is fixed correctly now, everything works, and with ideas found from this site it has allot of upgrades too. I fabricated power windows, power remote locks, added an alarm, pioneer stereo, subs, new seats, windshield, built a console, installed driving lights in the front bumper, new headlight harness, cb radio, cd changer, wiper delay, tinted windows, new transmission, etc. I hope to change the automatic over to a manual as soon as I can find a parts truck or someone who wants to swap trannys.
This truck is my daily driver, and with the added convinces it's a blast to drive. Not sure how long I'll own it because I have other projects on the horizon and I'm not too found of an automatic transmission. But i know if I sell it that I'll probably never find another bumpside in such good shape around here again, there pretty rare to come across. So theres still a debate on that issue.
I've owned about 25-30 vehicles since I was 15, love to fix them up, trade them and start over with a new project. I'm always interested in anything that has to do with mechanical repair, fabrication, restoration, or what have ya'. I even toyed with a Firebird Kinght Rider conversion once (link in my profile.)
So thats the quick info on me, a link to pictures can be found in my signature. Thank you all for having a great community here at fordification.
