What is it? (column part)

Post by sargentrs »

Manual Steering, '70 Sport Custom. Plastic bushing on bottom end of steering column. Got a part number and a source to get it from? Seems a waste to rebuild the column and not replace this.

Well, crud, the link didn't work for me. It's Fig. 10 on the "The Manual 3-spd Steering Column Explored" tech page.

Hey Fordman...

The colors on the chart matched exactly with the wire colors on the '71 switch.

I think the thing that sargentrs is looking for is a white plastic cone shaped piece.
I'm on my way to the Ford dealer to that bearing, i'll see if I can get a part number for it...

Thanks again,

So it's the

B1AZ-3518-A (E)
Upper & Lower Bearing Sleeve
- 2 Wheel Drive- Plastic
- Before Serial # S40,001
F100-350 67-73

on page 22 of the DC catalog? Same one goes on top and bottom?

It looks more like the:

D9TZ-3C773-B (G)
Steering Column Shaft Lower Plastic Bushing
- 2 wheel drive
- w/ fixed column
F100/350 73-77
F100/350 79

The photo from the tech page (http://www.fordification.com/i.....spd_08.jpg) (yeah, that's it fordman) doesn't look like the B1AZ-3518. The 3518 is cone shaped (fatter on one end than the other). Unless the one in the pic is that wore out?

the one shown in the pic above is different than the little plastic one of B1AZ-3518. I COULD NOT SEE THE OTHER ONE IN MY PAPER CATALOG. THAT ONE IN THE PICTURE ABOVE is for the shift tube. the shift tube is larger than the inner plastic b1az -3518 is.

i thought the one on the tube i sent was in decent enough condition to reuse. a bronze one might wear faster than the steel one.

:yt:

The one on the end of the shift tube, not the center shaft. I guess I'll have to get a steel one made if nobody can tell me what and where to get it. I tried to call Cal-Classics today but couldn't get through, busy, busy, busy.

You might try those contacts that had the other one...

I have my '68 column dismanteled now, that was the only plastic part at the bottom...
Did they change in '70 ???
