no pwr steerin can be a good thing

Post by nevrenufhp »

I have discovered that not having power steering is a benefit. I have a teen age daughter, and she drove it around the block once. She refuses to drive it now.
My wife drove it a few times and got winded in a parking lot, and now wont drive it either. Maybe I'll just spend money on better brakes. Anyone need a Saginaw pump with brackets for a 300?

Yeah. Cranking on a Ford Truck steering wheel does give your arms a little exercise. Better than none at all.

neverenuf,

I've got the same "armstrong" steering in my Ranchero and love it!

I've got all the pieces to make it power, (on the back burner for now).

Nice to get back in your truck and the seat in the same place you left it.

I have everything to convert to power too now. But I'm not in any hurry to do it. As long as there's air in the tires and you keep the truck rolling, the armstrong works fine.

No leaks with the armstrong either, unless you count occasional sweat as a leak.

On a similiar train of thought, I think that's one of the reasons I'm so partial to the power assist on F-250 4x4's. They can have a 1/2 turn of slop in the wheel and I'll set the toe in a little and drive it like it's a new truck. Anybody else gets in and they can't keep it on the road.

Yep, I got the Armstrong steering setup in mine. It is hard to go from my daily driver Ranger to Ol' Blue. I go "What the heck is wrong.....oh ya."

I filled mine with synthetic gear oil & it seemed a wee bit easier to turn.

I kind of like the work out I get parking my bump. I also think the turning radius is much better than with power steering.
