Trim clip holes

Post by sargentrs »

When I first got my truck, the trim was in such bad shape, I stripped it off. In hindsight, I should have been more careful and the PO had attempted to keep it on with screws and such. Here's the question: Is there any diagram that shows the correct placement and quantity of the clips so I can figure which holes are the original? I'd like to fill in the unnecessary holes but it's hard tell which ones are the right ones? Same thing with the side mirrors, hood ornament, etc. They put non original stuff there too and just put holes wherever.

for the beltline trim on the doors. thier should be 1 hole at each end for the main clips. then three holes in the center for the plastic clips. this should be the same for the lower molding also. the bed will have two main holes on either end. then about 7 or 8 plastic clip holes on the center of the belt line. the fornt fenders should also have two or maybe three holes for the main clips. and then two or three plastic clip holes. all of the factory holes will be smooth drilled into the body. anythng that is rough looking is probably wrong. there is also these drawings that might help. http://www.fordification.com/schematics-d.htm

There are good diagrams in my NPD catalog (~pg 244) that show the clip types and quantities, but not really showing the exact location on the body for them.

The LMC catalog shows rough locations on the body.

That might be of help to you.

If the holes are pretty well equally spaced, I should be able to figure out which is which from your description. Thanks fordman!
