Antenna

Post by Supermike »

Hey folks... just wondering if anyone knows where to get just the MAST for our radio antennas? Does anyone make/sell just the mast as opposed to the entire antenna?

Right now I have a "stub" that is about 1" to 1-1/2" tall. I picked up an antenna mast tonight from Autozone, but when I put it on there was about 1/2" too much "stub" for it to slide all the way down.

So either I need to find a 'proper' mast for my stub (that sounds funny), or I need to saw off the current stub by about 1/2" so the mast I bought fits, and just replace the whole deal later when I get to that point of my fix-up.

Any suggestions?

i did see one. but i dont remeber hwere right now. but it wont fit that tpye of anteena i dont think. it is the kind that has allen screws that hold it on to a smaller stub. i will go back through what i think i was doing the other day and see if i can find what i saw before. if i could find that triangle type mast thats all i would need to.

ok it is on page 33 of the lmc catalog. in the upper left corner. it says original style mast. but it shows two types of anteena types. the round base and the correct retangle base. i am unsure which original mast they are talking about though. the picture looks like the round one.

That's the kind I picked up at Autozone (with the allen screws)... but it fits a shorter stub. So unless I can find one that fits our antenna stubs, I'll have to use a hacksaw and shorten mine...

I've got an LMC catalog upstairs... I'll check it out. Thanks!

Also check Dennis Carpenter. I ordered a completely new antenna from them a month or so back. It fit perfectly (the old antenna had broken off years ago so my dad duck taped it back together again. The old man was a duck tape wizard.)

Thanks, Teacherman... so did you order just the mast, or did you order the entire antenna (base, wire, and all)?

I ordered the whole thing -- mast, wire and base. The radio wasn't working right so I suspected the antenna wire might be bad. It was nicked, so it was a good purchase. It ran me $70 plus shipping.

Hey Teacherman,

Does your replacement have the airfoil shaped mast or is it just round?

I THINK the airfoil shape is correct for our trucks.
At least, that's what I remember reading somewhere, but I freely admit I could be mistookened.

The mast Dennis Carpenter sent was airfoil shaped. The one I took out was round, so I suspect it was a generic replacement.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I was out of town visiting my little sister and her kids at my mom's.

Sorry,

Thanks... Dude...wurd...I'm going to get one 4 my whip...

No really I bent my original pulling into the garage shortly after I got my truck. I was pretty irked with myself because I think the airfoil shape is way cool because you never see stuff like that anymore...

I had often wondered if the D-C one was "correct" and now I know, I'll get one on my next order...

Okay... DC does not just sell the mast... you have to buy the whole deal. They actually list them as NOS, so that's pretty cool. HOWEVER, the rest of my antenna is in decent shape, and I really don't need more than just the mast if I can get an original-style one from somewhere. The autozone one will not fit without me cutting down the old stub, which I hate to do.

LMC sells two different masts, and lists one as "Original Style" for $27 (see: http://lmctruck.com/icatalog/fb/0033.asp). I called them, and as usual got their "I'll be happy to take your order but I don't know crap" person on the phone. Man... ordering from NPD is SO much nicer. Anyhow, she took my info and said they would have to have "customer service" look into it and call me back. I'll be interested to see if they know their own dang products. I'm surprised they don't have Paki's answering the phones.

I'll let ya'll know what I find out.
