paint decision- trying to match a color

Post by 1971ford »

(i moved this from my project thread to here because it could get confusing having two topics in one)
im having second thoughts about the colors i previously chose for the 69 once i get a compressor and finish the 71. I like both these paints the same. which do you prefer, the gloss black or blue/white? why?
thanks, i really cant decide.

sorry for the huge pictures

black takes a lot of prep work, there cannot be any waves, ripples, dings, nothin, it would have to be perfect, i would do it but be prepared to do a lot of work, if you were going harbor blue and white, it would look good. if it were me i would do a dark ford blue and white, if i had to do blue and white, mines going to be a gun metal grey flake

well the good thing is that i would have a compressor this time and i wouldnt be in a rust like i was with the 71, since my brother relied on it for driving tests. so this truck can be dismantled for paint for a while. so i can take my time and do it right. thanks for the replys guys :)

it'll definately be worth it., im just cautioning you, ive done some prep work for a lot of vehicles and blacks and silvers are the hardest to pull off, it shows everything. just make sure everything is straight, do what ever you have to to get it straight.

i do want this truck to be a nice truck. if i put the time into it getting the body very nice, i think i may have a chance of pulling it off. the truck would have to have the drivers door replaced and the bed scrape taken care of nicely by a body shop. i will have to do a good amount of auto body studying too. it would look sooo purty though.

trust me when i say this, do not take any short cuts on a black paint job, ive seen a few go out the door because the owner did all the bodywork and didnt want us to touch it just paint it, and they look horrible. all three of those pics you have posted above have a lot of man hours just in the paint alone

Black is also hard to keep clean, white actualy hides dirt better.

Black (and any other dark color) is hard to pull off as lightning said.

If you are putting in the effort and it can be down for a while, I would vote for black.

I think black looks better on 67-72 chebys, our trucks tend to look better in lighter colors or 2 tones. IMO.

i have seen to many two tone blue/white bumps and dents. Its not that i dont like two-tones--i would love to have a two tone paint job but not blue/white. plus ive always had a soft spot for black trucks

Black is a really hard color to do. Ever little thing will show up if the body work is bad. Then all the dirt shows up really bad.

The blue and white. There is a lot of trucks with that. I see one ever day on the net. I woud do red and white but you see them a lot to.

Or just do the hole thing fire engine red. You woud turn some heads then.

My paint ford only had 3 years so you never see it any more so thats how I stick out
