I am getting ready to remove the aux fuel tank on my 69 camper spec. Does anyone have a diagram of the hoses and lines going to the top of the tank? I can see the tube going through the frame rail from the fuel valve but I don't know where it goes to. I don't want to lower the tank and bend up a bunch of stuff.
Anyone got a procedure for removing the tank?

re: camper special auxilary fuel tank
The line runs thru the frame, over the tank, turns and goes thru the crossmember (that has the rear cab mounts) offset towards the drivers side the same distance off-center as the parking brake cable. If memory serves me right, the fuel line hookup is just forward the filler & breather hoses on the tank. Would recommend a floor jack w/blocks to lower it slowly/safely... esp if there's still gas in it.
BTW, the parking brake cable is attached to the front inside corner of the aux tank (presumably to keep it from rubbing otherwise). I learned that the hard way
And if you decide not to reinstall it, I'd be happy to to buy it from you... Mine is rotted beyond repair

re: camper special auxilary fuel tank
thanks for that info. I'm having a hard time getting a hose crammed down the filler neck to siphon whats in it out. I hate to start messing with it when I can't see whats up there. At this time I plan to clean, line it and put it back. However, if I do change my mind, I will definitely let you know. I still don't know how far I will go with this project. This is my first such rebuild.

Why siphon it? Those tanks have a drain plug on the front end.

You know I looked along the bottom for a plug but never thought to look up front. I'll do that tonight.
thanks.
thanks.

It sure does have one on the front. but it is more that half way up the tank. Why would they put it up so far? The only way to drain it would be to stand it on end. Seems like the best place to put one in would be at the bottom.

I've learned not to try to second-guess the brainiac engineers at Ford...it'll do nothing but cause a headache.
You might not be able to drain all the fuel out that way, but it's a start. I suppose you could always thread a small hose in there to siphon the rest out....it might be easier than doing via the filler neck. However, unless the tank is completely full, I'd just drain as much as possible via that drain plug, and then unbolt the tank and let it down with a hydraulic jack....and then worry about completely draining it once it's out.

re: camper special auxilary fuel tank
I believe that the hose through the drain plug hole method would be best.
