I got a quote from my neighbor to do all the body work and pain on it since I really don't have the time to do the work myself and he is a self employed bodyman. Anywhos he quoted me an approximate of $4000 for all paint, primer, labor, clearcoat, and all other materials. Does this sound like a good deal. Maybe later today I can post some pics of the crew so everyone knows what kind of rust we are dealing with.

Is he stripping it down to bare metal. Is he going to block sand? How many coats of primer, how many coats of base, how many coats of clear. Is he paiting the truck whole while on the frame, or each piece/panel? Will he block sand the final basecoat before he applies the clearcoat to get rid of orange peel?

I'll probably be stripping it down myself to save money as I have the means to do it. Yes block sand, on coats I'm not sure. It will be done panel on panel. The plan is to do one panel at a time so like the hood needs some stuff done, then work the dents out of the box, then prep,primer all that stuff. Idk on the last question but I'll ask.

i had my 93 lightning painted back in 04 and it cost me over 6k. that was for dupont two stage base/clear and a little body work-and i mean a little body work. just a couple of hail dents. i had a hard time even finding anyone that wanted to do a total repaint. all the money is in collision repair and so no one around here even wants to mess with repaints.
i'd say your quote is a very good price.

To me that's just plain nuts. My neighbor said he could fix the dings on dad's '89 mustang coupe and shoot it with a six year base coat, clearcoat for around $600. Depending on the rust and dents I'd either do it your self and learn or find a better body.

I guess the big question is what do you want out of the truck and what quality work do you want? For a daily driver working truck I can't see a $4000 paint job. Kind of funny he's quoting so high on materials, but nothing on labor to so the work...

The products listed are the best PPG has to offer. Typically a 4,000 dollar job without rust repair will get it back to like new conidtion.

well, i am not sure if it is too high or not. I found a guy at a body shop that showed me how to do body work on my truck and I worked with him and he painted and clearcoated my truck for free and the guy across the street at the other body shop, i got to know and he did my graphics for $300.00. I am having to do the block sanding on the clearcoat to remove the orange peel effects and then will buff it out as well. They showed me on some of the other cars on what i needed to do and it saved me a bunch of $$

Getting anything painted is expensive these days. I've found that is the most expensive of any restoration work you do.
